In order to provide tax relief to senior citizens of low income in the community, qualifying residential parcels shall be exempt from the education parcel tax.
The exemption shall be available each year upon proper application to the District pursuant to procedures to be prescribed by the Board of Education or otherwise as required by law or by the Los Angeles County Tax Collector.
The exemption shall be available to any parcel on which is located only one single-family residential unit owned and occupied by a taxpayer 65 years of age or older:
- whose combined family income from all sources for the previous calendar year is at or below the income level qualifying as "very low income" for a family of such size under Section 8 of the United States Housing Act of 1937, 42 U.S.C.A. Sections 1437 and following.
- Owners must apply for this exemption annually by petition to the Office of the Chief Financial Officer of the District at the time and in the manner set forth in procedures established by the District.
- Applicants will be required to provide information sufficient to verify income including, but not limited to, federal income tax returns and W-2 forms of owner-occupants.
In mail-only elections, everyone gets an absentee ballot. Ballots must be received by the Registrar of Voters by 8pm, Tuesday, May 4.
As soon as you receive your ballot, mark "YES" on Measure CC. Then, place the ballot back into the envelope, sign and date the envelope, place a stamp on it and put in the mail immediately.
When will ballots arrive? Your ballot should have arrived in the mail. If you did not receive a ballot, call the Registrar of Voters at (562) 466-1323 no later than Friday, April 30 for a replacement.
When is the ballot due? Ballots must be received by the Registrar of Voters by 8pm on Tuesday, May 4.
How do I return my ballot? If you're mailing your ballot, you should send it in no later than Friday, April 30 to be sure it arrives at the Registrar's office in time.
Or, you can personally deliver it to one of these local drop-off locations on Tuesday, May 4 between 7am and 8pm:
- Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave., Pasadena
- Altadena Metropolitan Baptist Church, 2283 Fair Oaks Ave., Altadena
- Sierra Madre Library, 440 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre
You can also drop your ballot off at the Registrar of Voters Office in Norwalk at 12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk, Ca 90650 between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday and between 8am and 8pm on Tuesday, May 4.
What if I need a new ballot? If you did not receive your ballot, if you lost it, or if you made a mistake, please call the Registrar of Voters at (562) 466-1323 no later than Friday, April 30 for a replacement.
